Self Love Rituals

Over the last few years I have been cultivating a few daily self-love rituals and as a result have felt myself becoming stronger and more compassionate towards myself and others. It’s so important to have a strong base of self-love as it enables you to face challenges in life without relying too much on external things or any addictive habits.

These are just some things I do every day to improve my overall wellbeing, which I have find to be very effective in cultivating more inner strength and joy. Every time I speak to people about staying positive I think about all these little things I do to ground me and wish I had a simpler way of sharing them so here it is, I hope you enjoy!

  • Celery Juice

“If people knew all the potent healing properties of celery juice, it would be widely hailed as a miraculous superfood. Celery has an incredible ability to create sweeping improvements for all kinds of health issues.” – Anthony William

87166459_485289688811273_5004606222419099648_nAt first I was a bit skeptical with the idea that drinking celery every morning could truly be a ‘miracle cure’, as Anthony William suggests in his bestselling book. Then I saw thousands of people writing and posting about it on social media and decided I didn’t have anything to loose by trying it. All you need is a juicer, then you can just wash a bunch of celery and drink it in the morning on an empty stomach. It’s important to do it first thing as this way it detoxifies your body and you get all the healing benefits.

Strangely I would almost say the affects of this are more mental than physical – I just feel more clear minded after drinking the juice and after a while notice my general wellbeing going up. It’s not so much a miraculous, healing cure as something to do often in order to build up your strength, if you want to detox your system or if you are in a healing process. Over time the celery seems to tastes nicer and nicer which is an added motivation.

  • Lemon Juice & Water

A classic, but it’s another little ritual which has made me feel overall much healthier and stronger in the long run. First thing in the morning I make a glass of water and squeeze a lemon into it, which immediately hydrates me so that I am ready for the day. The citric in the lemon juice activates the H2O, improving digestion, skin and vitamin C levels.

  • Wim Hof Breathing Practice

This is probably the most important thing I have come across in the last few years. I do this simple 15 minute breathing practice all the time because it releases endorphins and immediately makes me feel so clear minded and more present in the moment.

I would honestly say that this is one of the best things you can do if you struggle with overthinking or getting stuck in your head too much, it is so grounding and doesn’t take up much of your time so can be done pretty regularly.

All you need is a quiet place to sit where you won’t be disturbed for 15 minutes and wifi so that you can access the video. I usually do this practice first thing in the morning or sometimes at night, or when I want to stop my monkey mind and become fully grounded in the present.

  • CBD Oil

I began taking CBD oil in the midst of a long period of struggling with quite disturbing nightmares (which I think was essentially my brain trying to make sense of loads of traumatic stuff I went through a few years before that) and really wanted something to soothe my sleep. CBD is used to heal loads of different things, most severely it can be taken to reduce symptoms of epilepsy or physical pain, but it can also have a great affect on softening anxiety, sleeplessness and period pain.

CBD is part of the marijuana plant which isn’t psychoactive – it has no THC in it whatsoever. In fact it is essentially the antidote to THC. Plants often carry two dual compounds within them which balance each other out, and CBD has been known to counteract the effects of a THC high. It is known in scientific terms as a cannabinoid and is 1 of 113 found in the marijuana plant. I actually really don’t bode well with marijuana in its complete form, but CBD is like my best friend now.

I was a bit nervous as first when I began taking a few drop of CBD under my tongue in the evening, but when I realised that it really wasn’t psychoactive and just made me feel relaxed and sleepy I felt massively reassured and have since had great experiences with CBD. I would recommend it mostly for nightmares, sleeplessness, period pain and mild anxiety. Most of the times I take it I have really pleasant, sometimes almost spiritual dreams (such as running through the Amazon rainforest) and wake up feeling really rested.

I take the lowest strength of CBD because I’m a really sensitive person- it all depends on your own sensitiveness

  • Meditation

So I’ve been talking to loads of people about meditation recently and often get really varied responses, some people tell me it has changed their life and especially helped them overcome addictions whereas others have said that they don’t really understand the point of it.

An important thing to understand regarding mediation is that there are many different types such as breathing meditation, transcendent meditation (mantra based), silent meditation etc. so it’s worth finding a practice that you like before you give up on it.

I really like transcendental meditation mostly because it’s straightforward, I’ve heard people have had amazing experiences from it and it’s bound to have a positive effect even if you struggle to maintain it. The idea is to choose a word or a phrase which represents something that you want to cultivate into your life and then repeat it to yourself. Every time your mind wanders, you bring your attention back to the phrase and try not to attach on to any other thought.

I often use phrases such as ‘peace’, ‘prosperity’, ‘I am strong’ etc. and I really believe that it has a big impact on your subconscious mind. It’s like brainwashing yourself into feeing good, but it works.

  • Yoga

Yoga is amazing because it is like a physical meditation which grounds you in the body and can be your daily exercise at the same time. It’s so easy to forget to practice any kind of sport or yoga and get distracted by other things but it’s so important to feeling good in your body and mind. As you probably know being active literally releases endorphins which counteract anxiety and depression hence why it’s even more important to have a daily practice when you’re feeling down.

I really enjoy yoga because it incorporates my spiritual practice with my physical, and I often reach a state of really deep meditation afterwards.

A lot of people don’t seem to know that yoga is actually a lifestyle, not a sport in the Western sense. It developed in India thousands of years ago and was originally a way for yogis to stretch out any tension in their body before sitting to meditate- it originated as a kind of pre-meditation practice.

There are so many Youtube tutorials now which are really straightforward and means you can’t use money as an excuse not to practice yoga. It’s so easy and accessible, all you need is a matt, a space to practice and you’re set.
